How can AMRs be integrated into the automation process?

Autonomous mobile robots can be integrated with stationary industrial robots when tending to machines in order to improve the flexibility, efficiency and productivity of the overall system. They also improve safety levels, as they replace industrial trucks, which pose a considerable risk of accidents. Examples:

Material transport: AMRs bring materials to the KUKA robots to guarantee the supply of raw materials or semi-finished products.
Intermediate process transport: AMRs transport parts between different production processes.
Machine maintenance and operator control: AMRs bring tools or spare parts to the KUKA robots in order to carry out maintenance work or refill materials.
Adaptable layout: Production systems can be designed in a more adaptable way, as they can be easily reconfigured to meet changing requirements or production layouts.

What tasks and functions does the configuration robot perform?

Configuration robots take on the monotonous task of loading CNC machines – a time-saving and ergonomic advantage, especially when it comes to heavy components. These tasks include the following procedures:

Loading and removing parts
Opening and closing machine doors
Handling workpieces or pallets
Transporting to the transfer station
Removing parts as bulk material
Upstream processes, e.g. pre-embossing

What is machine tending?

Machine tools are loaded and unloaded during the machine configuration process. Material or a ready-made blank is taken and inserted into the CNC machine, for example a grinding, milling or turning machine. Once machining has been completed, the part is removed again and taken to the transfer point or set down at a stacking station. This includes pallets, conveyors or other process stations. This requires high precision and efficient motion sequences.
