The circular economy as a solution for greater sustainability

What is meant by the term “circular economy”?

A circular economy in the field of production is an economic model that aims to use resources efficiently, minimize waste, and keep materials and products in use for as long as possible. Unlike the traditional linear economy, where resources are mined and products are manufactured, used, and eventually disposed of, the circular economy seeks to extend the life cycle of products by reusing, repairing or recycling materials, or using them as resources for new products.

Core principles of the circular economy in production include:

Design for durability and repairability: Products are designed to last longer and to be more easily repaired and upgraded in order to maximize their useful life.
Reuse and repair: Products or parts thereof are collected after use and reused or repaired to extend their life cycle.
Recycling of materials: At the end of their useful life, products are broken down into their individual materials, which are then recycled and used for the production of new products.

The life cycle of a KUKA robot

The Circular Services apply the core principles of the circular economy to KUKA robots:

The design of all our products is well thought-out and allows for easy repairs.
The buy-back of robots offers us the opportunity to bring them back to the market as overhauled, tested used robots. This maximizes their life cycle.
If repurchased robots and controllers are no longer suitable for upgrading, they are dismantled. Parts that can still be used are cleaned, tested for full functionality and offered as used spare parts. These spare parts can thus also sustainably increase the service life of other robots and controllers that are already no longer available on the market.
Our platform for reselling?your robots to third parties also contributes to an extended life cycle. We guarantee maximum support.
